There is a version of lemonade for nearly every region of the world. In the US, lemonade is usually made from lemon juice, water, and simple syrup. In Europe, it is a lemon flavored soda pop or mineral water. Just to give you an idea of the lemonade spectrum—you can find some recipes that include salt, ginger, vanilla, rose water, saffron, cumin, or even garlic!
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water. Stirring over medium-low heat, cook for a few minutes to dissolve the sugar completely. Let cool. This is your simple syrup.
Add the extra water to the lemon juice, then the syrup a little at a time until it reaches your desired level of sweetness. Finish off with a pinch of salt and a garnish of mint, basil, or splash of grenadine. Or you could go make yourself a Lemon Marshmallow Meringue Pie Cocktail!
